Mastering effective negotiation is an essential business skill – getting the best deal available while maintaining good relationships.

In order to influence the thinking and behaviour of others, and persuade them to your way of thinking, you need to communicate confidently, build a relationship and remain assertive even when pressurised.

Our Negotiation and Influencing Skills course explores and advises on every aspect of the negotiation process providing tips, tools and techniques for getting it right. It is designed to enable you to be more confident, influential and persuasive at work through recognising the link between your communication skills and the impact they can have on others. The core focus is about one-to-one interactions.

Content includes: 

  • Understanding the fundamentals of negotiation: Learn about the basic principles of negotiation, such as understanding your own goals and priorities, understanding the other party's goals and priorities, and finding ways to create a mutually beneficial outcome.
  • Developing effective communication skills: How to use effective communication skills such as active listening, questioning techniques, and nonverbal communication to build rapport and trust with the other party.
  • Identifying and managing emotions: Recognise and manage your own emotions and the emotions of the other party to create a more positive negotiating environment.
  • Building relationships: The importance of building relationships in negotiation and influencing, and how to establish rapport and trust with others to achieve your goals.
  • Identifying and using leverage: Identify and use leverage in negotiations, such as identifying your strengths and weaknesses, identifying the other party's strengths and weaknesses, and finding ways to create value for both parties.
  • Creating win-win solutions: Find creative solutions that meet both your own and the other party's needs, rather than simply focusing on getting the best deal for yourself.
