The Challenge

Northern Industrial is a leading global supplier of industrial automation parts and repairs, based in Blackburn. They provide a wide range of automation solutions from sourcing obsolete parts to express repairs and new part upgrades.

Northern Industrial has grown rapidly over the last few years and as such their workforce has grown too. Many members of staff had received some level of training and development, but it was felt a more professionally-led course for Team Leaders was needed. The company were looking to try and standardise working practices across their global sites and their objective was to deploy Total Excellence Centre to create the following:

  • Create a better sharing of best practices across the whole company
  • To work collaboratively
  • To deploy better approaches to situations
  • Create a better way of documenting information processes
“Tess, our trainer delivered an outstanding programme of support. Her knowledge and ability to keep our people engaged helped shape the success of the programme and we look forward to attending more courses led by Tess in the future.”

The Solution

Total Excellence Centre investigated the possibility of Northern Industrial qualifying for some ESFA funded programmes. Once the qualifying criteria was met and the funding secured and on the understanding that one of the key objectives was to share best practice and work collaboratively, Total Excellence Centre suggested the ILM Level 2 Team Leader/Supervisor programme. The process began with one of Total Excellence Centre’s trainers meeting with the client to discuss the programme, the content and the assignments that would need to be completed, as part of the ILM qualification. By the end of the meeting, the trainer had a thorough understanding of the objectives and needs of Northern Industrial and the programme was then tailored to meet these. As an ILM Approved Centre, Total Excellence Centre can provide businesses with accredited qualifications, from Levels 2-5, which are designed and developed, to provide bespoke programmes.

  • Team leaders equipped with the skills to perform effectively
  • Competent staff who can manage their team members and relationships

The Results
